Lesford Dixon, a carpentry teacher at Construction Careers Academy in San Antonio, named as semifinalists for the Harbor Freight Tools for Schools 2018
Dixon has worked in construction for 18 years in three countries but is most proud of building the carpentry program at Construction Careers Academy. Dixon teaches his students how to build houses, and he brings the work and skills to life through stories of his work experiences and early life in Jamaica. In addition to being a licensed home inspector, he is an adjunct professor of construction technology at St. Phillips Community College and a National Center for Construction Education & Research certified instructor.
CALABASAS, Calif.— August 16, 2018.- A Texas high school skilled trades teacher is among the 52 teachers and teacher teams from across the country who were named today as semifinalists for the Harbor Freight Tools for Schools 2018 Prize for Teaching Excellence and are in the running for a share of $1 million in cash prizes.
Lesford Dixon, a carpentry teacher at Construction Careers Academy in San Antonio, was chosen from among a field of more than 500 skilled trades teachers who applied for the prize. The semifinalists—some competing as individuals and some as teacher teams—hail from 27 states and specialize in trades ranging from construction and carpentry to automotive repair, welding, advanced manufacturing and agriculture mechanics.
